Nothing like some great beats to get you going again at the gym

Sometimes, a great music play list for the gym can be the difference between a great work out and a mediocre one. Music not only distracts us from the hard work that goes into exercising, but it can also be a tool for motivation. With the right songs, you might be able to push yourself just that little bit further.

If you haven’t been to the gym for a while and want to put a new playlist together for your next visit, here are some suggestions. Let these songs (and the titles) guide you through as you ease back into your fitness regime – hopefully, the beats will help you beat your personal bests in no time!

Let's Go – Calvin Harris featuring Ne-Yo

Start at the very beginning and get yourself ready for a workout. Grab your gym bag, get your mind ready for your return to the gym, and get going! Whether you drive to the gym or perhaps jog over there, the most important thing is that you’ve said to yourself – let’s go!

Wake Me Up – Avicii

Now that you’ve motivated yourself to go to the gym and your mind is raring to go, don’t forget that your body may need some help “waking up” too. That’s right, don’t forget to incorporate a warm-up into your routine and get your muscles and limbs ready for all the activity you’re going to put them through.

Temperature – Sean Paul

A good warm-up is more than just stretching, so make sure you do enough to get your temperature rising. This stage of your exercise routine is more than just about avoiding injuries – do it right and it can also help you get the best results from your work out.

Gonna Make You Sweat (Everybody Dance Now) – C&C Music Factory

If this song doesn’t get you going, nothing will! It’s perfectly apt to you kick off your session with a song that will get your feet moving. The warm-up may have given you a warm glow, but it’s time to move to the next level and start sweating!

Work It – Miss Elliott

One routine down and you can feel the adrenaline rush. If you’re returning to the gym after a while, you want to take it slightly easier but this doesn’t mean you don’t push yourself. Go for the lighter weights and drop the intensity but make sure you’re still getting a good workout!

Pump Up The Jam – Technotronic

“Pump it up a little more” or so goes the lyrics in this classic hit that’s bound to give you the right beats to follow and get your heart pumping. Whether you’re on the treadmill, using the machines or pumping weights, keep going – you’re doing amazing.

Lose Yourself – Eminem

You’ve been going for a while and that second wind is probably kicking in just about right now. Work through the difficulties, embrace the struggle, and just lose yourself in the workout. You know you’ve only got a little more to go – focus on how amazing you will feel at the end!

Push It – Salt-N-Pepa

You’re almost there! You’re coming to the tail end of your exercise plans for today but guess what? You know you have more in you. Adjust a little and do your last rep till failure. Don’t forget to get someone to spot you if you need, but here’s your last chance to push yourself.

I Love It – Icona Pop, Charli XCX

You made it, well done! Now that you’ve pushed yourself to your limit (for this workout), it’s time to cool down and get your body into recovery mode. This doesn’t just help you get more oxygen into your muscles and release tension, it’s also a chance to relax after a hectic workout and remind yourself why you’re doing all this exercising – because you love it!

Happy – Pharrell Williams

By now, the endorphins must be whizzing through your body and you should be reaping all the benefits from that workout. Enjoy the happy feeling and remember it for next time when the workout feels hard. Good job!
